A personal log of day hikes and hut-to-hut routes around Interlaken, Grindelwald and the Lauterbrunnen valley. Updated when the weather allows.

Schynige Platte to First

16 km · 6 h · T2

The classic ridge walk with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in view for most of the day. Start early: the first train up is the least crowded, and the Faulhorn terrace empties after noon.

Oeschinensee loop

9 km · 3.5 h · T2

A short loop above the lake with a long lunch stop. In October the larches turn and the crowds are gone. The descent on the west side is steep after rain.

Lobhornhütte from Isenfluh

11 km · 5 h · T3

Quiet trail, one exposed section near the Sulsseewli, and the best view of the Lauterbrunnen wall I know. The hut serves soup until four.

Season notes

Most routes above 2000 m hold snow into June. Cable cars run reduced schedules between the seasons; check the day before. Thunderstorms build after two in the afternoon through July and August, so plan the exposed parts for the morning.
