Routes

Times are my own walking times with short breaks. Grades follow the Swiss Alpine Club hiking scale.

Schynige Platte to First

16 km · 1100 m up, 1000 m down · 6 h · T2 · July to mid-October

Take the cog railway from Wilderswil. The path climbs gently over the Oberberghorn flank, then follows the ridge to the Faulhorn. From the summit it is a long descent past the Bachalpsee to First, where the gondola goes down to Grindelwald. Water is scarce after the Faulhorn; carry two litres on a hot day.

Oeschinensee loop

9 km · 500 m up and down · 3.5 h · T2 · May to October

From the top station walk to the lake, then take the upper path towards Heuberg for the view across the water. The return along the shore is easy. Swimming is possible in August if you do not mind nine degrees.

Lobhornhütte from Isenfluh

11 km · 900 m up and down · 5 h · T3 · June to October

Bus to Isenfluh, then the small cable car to Sulwald. The trail passes the Sulsseewli, where one short section is exposed and secured with a chain. The hut sits on a shelf facing the Jungfrau; book in advance for overnight stays.

Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen via Männlichen

12 km · 300 m up, 800 m down · 4 h · T1 · June to October

An easy panorama trail that works well on a day with a late start. Good for guests who do not want a steep descent, as the last part can be done by train from Wengernalp.
